Google Search: Causal Impact Report

What happened to Google Search performance before and after an event? Analytics Edge makes it easy to compare 2 date ranges in Google Search. This report shows a very simple example.

Select 2 date ranges and run the query; it doesn’t get any easier than that.

The Macro

You don’t actually need an Analytics Edge macro for this one — the Google Search Analytics query wizard does all the work. The macro simply contains the query and a WriteToWorksheet function.

The query gets the date and clicks (images) for the date range in the Setup sheet (image) and compares it to a second date range in the Setup sheet (image).

The Date Comparison option changes the Date column into an ‘Nth Day’ column, so day 0, 1, 2, etc from the 2 date ranges will be compared on the same row. Optional difference and percent change columns can be included to complete the report.

Charting the results is equally easy; in this example, a combination chart is used to show the Difference column as a gray bar chart.
